Even Though Pink Is My Favorite Color…

Journal entry by megan steele — Oct 1, 2019

Women’s breast cancer is probably the most funded and researched type of cancer there is, with incredible advances in the technology used for screening and treating. The ribbon we get to use for awareness is pink (my favorite color!). The calendar turns to October and many brands come out with limited edition pink things to show their support… But did you know that men can get breast cancer too? It is often misdiagnosed due to how rare and under recognized it is. And because the hype is very pink and female focused, a lot of men ignore symptoms until it’s too late out of embarrassment. This makes me so sad. This affects 1 in 100 men.

Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate and awareness shouldn’t either. I wish I had more to post about it, but unfortunately I don’t know much about it and couldn’t find a ton about it. Which is why I want to do my teensy part to at least raise a bit of awareness.

Here are a couple of articles which include the stories of male survivors who are courageous in sharing their stories. (I would like to point out one article is coming from a women’s magazine.) https://www.muscleandfitness.com/features/edge/male-breast-cancer-it-could-happen-you

Again, don’t put things off~ regular checkups, getting things you aren’t sure of checked out, exercise and diet… Don’t take that body of yours for granted! It does the best it can with what you give it. Take good care of it. You’re supposed to be a team! 😉
